It’s 2024 and the Toyota DEALER doesn’t have a scope and balks at the price…. State of the industry right there…. Bad management. At first he said it took a little bit of driving before P0019 returned. Then he said both P0018, and P0019 sets immediately after replacing the timing chains and checking the timing multiple times, but it appears he got the timing off? Considering the problem originally required some driving I would suspect oil pressure problems on the bank 2 tensioner or maybe even camshaft thrust problems… the tone wheel might be walking in and out from the sensor. On GM products I’ve been seeing a lot of VVT correlation/performance codes caused by oil pressure leaks under the front cam cap because they have scarf cut Teflon seals that shrink….. usually difficult to duplicate and hard to prove without a lab scope. Somewhere I have a photo where I proved the solenoid was drawing current and the pintle had moved, yet the cam actuator did not move when hot. Replaced those seals and it was fixed. Your theory on the aftermarket sensor is very valid. We all know aftermarket engine management sensors cause numerous problems and how else could all of the pulses on the tone wheel be affected. I love a head scratcher like this. Very interesting.

A 6 year old Jag is going to start getting unfixable issues. It's warranty is tiny because Jaguar know this. They want you to come and buy another one once the warning lights start coming on.

Why can’t they put a control module of the outside of the transmission? Seems it would be a lot easier to diagnose and repair

It's funny that you and Car Wizard both posted about red Jaguars within a day of each other.

I can't believe some drivers didn't think or plan ahead, one car key is a bad idea, if you lost it, it will take more than 600 dollar just to make another one of course including towing. But in this situation, key fob gone bad, and if it wasn't for honest mechanic like Ivan, it would cost him a.lot of money may be over a 1000, If he had two keys problem will be solved, just try the other key, if it start, no expense except to make another key.

The air suspension has a leak. I’m sure he will be calling you soon for that repair.

What would be an even bigger gremlin, is not having any Fan at all and no codes, but Engine Temp showing fine.. With no power to the Fan Relay or Fuse. Some of these issues with Fords are incredible.

What if you get the car started spraying starting fluid, and it runs fine, idles fine, but will not crank on the initial start.

From watching a lot of YT videos I have gathered that exotic cars tend to be very sensitive to minor battery fluctuations. Well, minor if you drive an old Honda. (90% probability there is NOT a transmission issue.) However, I did see on the OEM page you displayed to check transmission fluid level. Seems like you have to go to a dealer for that. Since the car is 6 years old I bet its never been checked. Would definitely recommend it get checked.

They also lose all their value in about 4 seconds.

Sean the MBA's are driving all of this. The MBA's actually go way past there are of expertise and dictate the design requirements, schedule and cost parameters for products. The field engineers that gave the poor guidance are also under pressure to close out these issues so whole thing is driven by the management and what processes they put in place to assure success. Except for the time, the final outcome to the customer appears good. Very often not the case. I do hope there is no short or long term damage to the techs at the dealership doing the work. All accounts they tried very hard to do the right thing. Many times these good intentions and deeds get punished. Been a mechanical and electrical engineer my whole life, now retired. Rest assured that the MBA types were in the room at Toyota when that camshaft drive was designed and approved the design along with the other disciplines. May be the way it is for cost and factory assembly with fixturing and did the "wave their hands in the air thing" at the design review when it came to ease of service. You have a lot of time invested. I watch both sessions. That was an excellent presentation that yet again reinforces your diagnostic process. We see yet again where the 3rd party parts/sensors did us in (Dorman is a four letter word, no Chinese Amazon parts). Also using the scope to take snapshots of known good as the baseline to compare to the problem vehicle. Makes the whole analysis linear and easier to do. What I should state first is a thanks to you for these informative troubleshooting RUclips videos. I do my own troubleshooting as much as I can so I do find your videos very useful and glad to see them.

British electrics strike again.

Maybe when the battery was replaced somebody had a memory keep plugged into the OBD socket and as they were changing over the battery they accidently touched the positive cable to ground, that would blow the 5amp fuse.

Fuel injectors suck on honda Pilot 2016+. I own a 2017 it did the same fresh from the dealership. You also have to keep changing the transmission fluid every 20-30k miles.

How much labour does this whole job take, baseline to baseline?

Unfortunately, in states that look for OBD2 codes stored for emissions, that'd probably now cause it to fail until replaced..... Sux to be "That guy" 🤷‍♂🤔🤦‍♂
